£19M Spent, a new Aston Villa and a big risk

Well thats it, the first transfer window of Paul Lambert’s reign is over.
We have now completed our dealings at the start of the season we needed a whole number of positions filled and now we know the full picture.
We needed a
Reserve Keeper – Guzan
Full Backs – Lowton and Bennett
Centre Back – Vlaar
Defensive Midfielder – Westwood
Playmaker – El Ahamadi
Wide Player – Holman
Two forwards – Benteke and Bowery
So all the positions we identified at the start of the season have been brought for. The total was spot on the £20M that Lambert was said to have to spend. Of course the factor we will notice in all these that the wages will be much cheaper than in previous windows (under all of Randy’s managers). It is clear that Lambert had a plan, he said it today and fulfilled it.
I think these signings we have us all talking all season. For sure there is one massive risk here. There is a lack of experience in these and the position they come into the club is not healthy.
The literal future of the club rests in Lambert’s hands that he can get these players to perform at their very best and be good enough to compete in the Premier League. Lets not beat around the bush here because we should not fool ourselves.
The risk is clear to all here and clearly Randy after the Everton game knew in no uncertain terms that we needed more and paid for them. This will be the youngest villa team in decades and there is some flexibility in it but the midfield does look well short to me in Premier League terms.
We will soon find out, most of us will have seen little of these players, we can not proclaim them as great players nor as bad players, we have not seen enough of them. For all concerned 17th will be a good finishing position I suspect.
For some that will be not good enough, for others it is a bright new dawn and I can agree with both of them in equal measure !!
