Diego Maradona Interested in Coaching Aston Villa, Sunday Mercury Says

Former Argentina soccer coach Diego Maradona is interested in managing Aston Villa in England’s Premier League, the Sunday Mercury reported, citing an interview with his European representative.
“I think Diego would be very open to the idea of coming to England and managing Aston Villa,” Walter Soriano told the central England newspaper. “He is very attracted to English football and the way of life in your country and I know he would be very willing to move there.”
Soriano added that Maradona, 49, “loves the English countryside and your respect for privacy, so he would be very happy there, especially at a big club like Aston Villa.”
Martin O’Neill quit as Villa manager last week, and caretaker coach Kevin MacDonald was in charge for yesterday’s 3-0 win against West Ham.
Maradona’s tenure as Argentina coach ended last month when the country’s soccer association didn’t renew his contract. A World Cup winner as a player in 1986, Maradona led Argentina to the quarterfinals of this year’s competition, where it lost 4-0 to Germany.
